Once Badshah Akbar considered fooling Birbal. He provided one egg to all his ministers prior to Birbal reaching the court. When Birbal reached the court, the Emperor claimed during the previous night he had seen a strange dream. A divine fakir showed up in his dream and stated that he would be able to judge the sincerity of his ministers by providing each of them with a simple job.

He should ask them to go to the royal palace pond and get an egg from there. Those who are sincere will discover an egg there, as well as those that are not will return empty-handed. Then the Badshah ordered every one of his courtiers to head to the royal garden pool and bring the egg. One at a time, all his ministers went to the royal pond and came back with the egg, which Badshah had previously given to them. When Birbal's turn came, he searched the pond for the egg. He also jumped into the fish pond, however, failed to locate any type of egg.
He soon realized that the Badshah Akbar was attempting to fool him. So, he thought of an idea and afterward went into the court crowing like a cock. The Emperor asked him to quit making that bothersome noise and give the egg. Birbal smiled and answered that only hens lay eggs, and since he was a cock, he cannot give an egg. Akbar started laughing and also understood that it was hard to outsmart his wise minister.
