Birbal Ki Khichdi
Badshah Akbar and Raja Birbal were walking along the river on a freezing winter day. According to Birbal, "A man would do anything for money." He communicated his opinion to Badshah Akbar. Akbar then dipped his finger in the river and immediately removed his finger because it was cold and shivering. "I don't think there's a man who will spend all night in the cold waters of this river for money," Akbar said. Raja Birbal replied, "I'm sure you'll find such a person." Akbar asked Birbal to find such a person, and he said he would give him 100 gold coins. Raja Birbal hunted extensively until he found a poor man desperate to take on this challenge.

Badshah Akbar placed a guard near the poor man so that he could see whether he really fulfilled his promise. The guard brought the poor man to Akbar the next morning. When Akbar approached the poor man, he inquired whether he had spent the night in the river. The poor man answered, "Yes." Emperor Akbar inquired how the poor man spent the night. He replied by paying attention to the streetlights, he avoided the cold. Akbar said he wouldn't be rewarded because the poor man spent the night on the river with the warmth of the streetlights. The poor man sought help from Birbal. The next day, Birbal did not appear in the court.
Akbar’s curiosity prompted him to send a messenger to his house. The messenger returned saying that Birbal would come after cooking his Khichdi. Birbal didn't show up despite the king waiting for hours. Finally, Badshah Akbar chose to go to Birbal's house to see what Birbal was doing. Birbal was sitting on the ground next to a burning twig with a bowl of Khichdi hanging 6 feet above it. The king and his followers laughed. The king asked Birbal, "How can you prepare Khichdi if the fire is so far away?" Birbal replied, "Same like the poor man getting heat from a streetlight more than a kilometer away." The king understood his mistakes and rewarded the poor.
